Software Terms of Service
Last updated 2 November 2026
The short version
- Sweep 125 is a scanner updater with live data feeds. It programs your scanner from your Mac and shows information from public and third-party data services.
- You must follow the radio laws where you are. What you may listen to, and what you may do with what you hear, differs from country to country.
- Cadence Limited takes no responsibility for how you use the software or your scanner, or for anything you receive, record or share.
- Live data and frequency lists can be wrong, late or missing. Never rely on them for navigation, safety or operations.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Sweep 125 (the "Software") is operated by Cadence Limited, a company registered in the Isle of Man (company number 137008C), with its registered office at 19 Peel Road, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 4LR ("Cadence", "we", "us").
These Software Terms of Service (the "Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Cadence for your use of the Software, including updates, the starter library, built-in guides and any connected services. By installing, starting a trial of, or using the Software you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not install or use the Software.
Buying a subscription and using our website are also covered by our Terms & Conditions. How we handle personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy.
2. What the Software is
Sweep 125 is a programming and updating tool for the Uniden UBC125XLT handheld scanner and compatible radios. It lets you:
- read, edit and write channels, banks and settings on your scanner over USB;
- keep a library of locations and frequency lists on your Mac, including lists built from public sources;
- view live data feeds on a map, such as aircraft positions, ship positions, airport weather and aircraft photos, supplied by third parties ("Live Data Feeds"); and
- optionally play your scanner's audio, or internet audio streams you add yourself, through your Mac and turn speech into text on your Mac.
The Software does not transmit on any radio frequency and does not decode encrypted or digital services. Sweep 125 is not made, endorsed or supported by Uniden or by any of the data providers named in the Software.
3. Your licence
While you have an active trial or paid subscription, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the Software on up to three Macs that you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use.
You may not:
- copy, sell, rent, sublicense or share the Software or your licence;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, except where the law allows this and cannot be excluded by contract;
- remove or work around licence checks, trial limits or the regional settings described in section 4;
- use the Software to build a competing product or to extract or republish the starter library or data from the Live Data Feeds in bulk.
The Software is licensed, not sold. Cadence and its licensors keep all rights not expressly granted to you.
4. Your responsibility to follow the law
You are solely responsible for making sure that owning, programming and using a scanner, and receiving, listening to, transcribing, recording or sharing any transmission, is lawful where you are. Cadence does not give legal advice and makes no promise that any use of the Software is lawful in your country.
Laws on receiving radio transmissions differ widely. For example:
- United Kingdom. Owning and programming a scanner is legal, and you may receive broadcast, amateur and CB radio and other transmissions intended for general reception. Under section 48 of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006 it can be an offence to use radio equipment, without lawful authority, to obtain information about the contents, sender or addressee of a message you are not meant to receive (which can include air traffic control, marine and business radio), or to disclose such information to anyone else. Ofcom publishes guidance on this.
- Other countries have their own rules, which may be stricter or allow more. Some prohibit scanners in vehicles or near certain sites, and some restrict particular frequencies.
In particular, you agree that you will not use the Software or your scanner to:
- receive, record, transcribe or share any transmission where doing so is unlawful where you are;
- disclose, publish, rebroadcast or stream the contents of any transmission you are not entitled to share;
- interfere with, obstruct or endanger aviation, maritime, emergency or any other services, or help anyone else do so; or
- commit, plan or assist any crime, or harass, stalk or track any person.
The Software includes a country setting. In UK mode some listening shortcuts are switched off by default and can only be switched on after you confirm that you understand the law. These settings are there to help you; they do not make any use lawful and they are not legal advice. If you are unsure, take your own legal advice before using the Software.
5. Live Data Feeds and third-party services
The Software can show data from third-party services, which may include adsb.lol (aircraft positions, open data under the ODbL), aviationweather.gov (airport weather), Planespotters.net (aircraft photos), AISStream.io (ship positions), Flightradar24 (flight details) and OpenStreetMap (map tiles), and any internet audio streams you choose to add.
- Provided as is. Live Data Feeds are run by others. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, interrupted or withdrawn at any time. We do not check, correct or guarantee them.
- Not for navigation or safety. Never use the Software or any Live Data Feed for navigation, flight or vessel operations, emergency response, or any decision where someone's safety, property or money depends on it.
- Your own keys and accounts. Some services need your own account and key. You are responsible for getting the key, following that provider's terms and paying any fees they charge. Keys are stored encrypted on your Mac.
- Streams you add. You are responsible for having the right to access any stream you add, and for following the terms of the site that provides it.
- Attribution. You must not remove the credits or attributions the Software shows for third-party data or photos.
We may add, change or remove Live Data Feeds at any time, for example if a provider changes its terms or stops its service.
6. Frequency lists and the starter library
Frequency lists in the Software come from public and community sources (including OurAirports) and from our own research. Frequencies change and community data can be out of date. Always check frequencies against the official publications for the place you are in (for example the relevant aeronautical information publication). Inclusion of a frequency in the Software does not mean you are allowed to listen to it.
7. Writing to your scanner
Writing to a scanner replaces the channels and settings stored on it. Before you write, use the Software's backup feature or keep your own copy. Do not unplug the scanner or close the Software while a write is in progress. We are not responsible for lost channels or settings, or for any fault in your scanner, cable or Mac, except as set out in section 10.
8. Listening and speech-to-text on your Mac
If you switch on "Listen on this Mac" or "Live ATC to text", audio from your scanner or from a stream you add is played through your Mac and, if you choose, turned into text by a speech model that runs on your Mac. The Software does not send this audio or text to us. Speech-to-text and callsign matching are approximate and can be wrong. Do not rely on them for anything important, and do not record, publish or share what you hear where that is unlawful.
9. Updates, trials and subscriptions
We may release updates that add, change or remove features. Some updates may be needed to keep using the Software or the Live Data Feeds. Your trial and subscription are described in our Terms & Conditions. When your trial or subscription ends, some or all features may stop working until you subscribe or renew. Your locations and logs stay on your Mac.
10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Cadence takes no responsibility for how you use the Software or your scanner. This includes any fine, prosecution, penalty, claim or other consequence that follows from what you receive, listen to, record, transcribe or share, and any decision you make based on the Software or a Live Data Feed.
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- the Software, the starter library and the Live Data Feeds are provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty that they are accurate, complete, uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose;
- Cadence is not liable for any loss of data, channels or settings, loss of profit, revenue or opportunity, or any indirect or consequential loss; and
- Cadence's total liability to you for all claims connected with the Software is limited to the amount you paid us for the Software in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law. If you are a consumer, you keep any rights you have under the consumer laws of the country where you live that cannot be removed by contract, including rights to digital content that is as described and of satisfactory quality.
11. Your promise to us
If you use the Software in breach of these Terms or of any law, and a third party brings a claim against Cadence because of that, you agree to compensate Cadence for reasonable losses and costs arising from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
12. Ending these Terms
You can stop using the Software and delete it at any time. We may suspend or end your licence if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, in particular section 3 or section 4. When your licence ends you must stop using the Software. Sections 4, 5, 10, 11 and 14 continue to apply after the licence ends.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect new features, Live Data Feeds or changes in the law. We will show the date of the latest version at the top of this page and, for important changes, tell you in the Software or by email before they take effect. If you do not agree to a change you can stop using the Software and cancel your subscription.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Isle of Man, and the courts of the Isle of Man have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live and may bring proceedings in your local courts.
